For the precise measurement of distance. Instro's LRF100 & 200 Series OEM laser range finder modules are based on Instro's patented Precise Distance Measurement (PDM) technology and are offered in the form of compact laser range finder modules (LRF) for integration into customer systems. Existing laser range finder modules establish the distance to an object by measuring the time of flight of a single very short pulse of laser radiation. Laser rangefinders using PDM technology transmit a specially generated sequence of pulses using a laser diode and associated optics. Reflected pulses are detected by a high speed detector and the exact time of flight is then established using a very efficient digital signal processing algorithm. Measurement performance can be set to automatic or be manually configured by the user. In automatic mode the Laser range finder adapts the measurement time to the strength of the returned signal. By manually programming the maximum measurement time, the laser range finder module can be reconfigured to specifically suit the intended application. This useful feature allows the trade-off between range, precision and measurement rate to be optimised.
